Sustainable Community Spotlight—BBMU
Occaisionally greenbrokenbow.org will be looking at current best practices for reducing energy consumption and environmental impact by business and individuals in the community. Today we are spotlighting the work that Broken Bow Municipal Utilities does to conserve energy.
Broken Bow Municipal Utilities purchases about 1.1 million kilowatt hours annually from the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) wind resource pool. Customers who are interested in renewable energy can purchase renewable energy credits from the City of Broken Bow. This amount is expected to increase in the near future.
Additionally, Broken Bow Municipal Utilities conducts energy audits and infrared scans of building to highlight areas of energy loss. There is also a commercial lighting conversion incentive program to encourage businesses to reduce their energy consumption.
